Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino belonged to Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s ancestors already at the end of 16th century and during the last hundred years it has been passed from mother to daughter and from the present owner it will go to her daughter Violante.
It is the first winery in Italy to be all female staffed. In the cellar one finds barrels, frescoes regarding the history of Montalcino and music. Guests can have immersive experiences with wine and hike through the organic vineyards where there are also works of art and inscriptions dedicated to women.

In the Casato Prime Donne winery in Montalcino there are not only barrels and fermentation tanks but also images and videos regarding the history and traditions of Montalcino.
The organic Sangiovese vineyards show not only vines but also the quotes by special women and contemporary art installations, such as the Brunello Calendar that illustrates the stars attributed to each Brunello vintage, the Modernacolo created for Carla Fendi, Carlotta Parisi’s wheelbarrows…..
For this reason a visit to Casato Prime Donne differs from any other winery, and the itinerant tasting helps to make the trail rich in sensations and emotions.
Rosso, Brunello di Montalcino and Brunello Riserva. The second and third wine are accompanied by diced bread and pecorino cheese.
The experience allows visitors to see where the wines vinify and age in barrel, the Sangiovese organic vineyards and the contemporary art. The explanations introduce guests to the history of Montalcino and the secrets of the production of Brunello.

Itinerant tasting of 4 wines matched with 4 different pieces of music all chosen by Igor Vazzaz, musician and sommelier.
A particular role that has been attributed to the 4 theatres which will house the same number of stations for this experience: the wine shop, the fermentation area, the cellars where the barrels are kept, and the tasting hall where together with the Vin Santo del Chianti one tastes also typical Sienese biscuits.
The music, the wines, and the places create intense emotions. In the new fermentation room there is a show with painted images, sounds and voices expressing the most authentic spirit of Montalcino

Private tour for wine lovers who want to be “pampered” in the cellar
Visit to the production and aging cellar (with barrel tasting of a young Brunello), followed by tasting in the Ilda Bartoloni Room, Rosso di Montalcino, preview of the Brunello which will soon be put on sale, accompanied Brunello di Montalcino and Brunello Riserva from pieces of bread and dried sausage.
The experience allows you to see the organic Sangiovese vineyards and the artistic installations such as the stars of the Brunello harvests, the Corten gate created by Elisa Boldi, the frame for taking selfies….
The guide explains to guests the history of Montalcino and information on the production of Montalcino wines.

Great place to taste some great wines. Our hostess, Antonella did an excellent job with the tour and answered all the questions. They really support the arts with painting sculptures and other artwork around the campus. They have walks through the fields for hiking. Nice wines,primarily based on Sangiovese grape. We were told about this place by a couple of American winelovers yesterday. So we drove all the way to Montalcino to explore the city and after that went to the Casato Prime Donne. What a beautiful scenic route to the winery, through the hills full of wineyards. The wineshop looked closed, but a short call opened the doors for a spontaneous wine tasting. The hostess was very helpful and explained a lot. We felt so welcome and tasted great wines, like the Brunello di Montalcino Prima Donne 2015 and the Brunello di Montalcino 2015 Riserva. Definitely a place to visit when you’re around Montalcino

The history of the land and the passion in the products cannot be beat. We took a lovely tour and participated in a tasting event, and it was easily the favorite of the trip.

We have not stopped talking about how wonderful our tour with Antonella was at Casato Prime Donne. The wines here are exceptional and the best we tried in Montalcino. But it was Antonella’s tour weaving history, art and winemaking that really left a lasting impact on our group. The poise and pace employed by Antonella did not go unnoticed. It was honestly the most remarkable winery tour everyone in our group had ever done, and one which will never be forgotten.

Charming Winery with a wonderful tour and a powerful message. Our guide felt truly genuine and gave a nicely rounded tale into winemaking with good hints of feminism. The wines were good, but not to my taste.
